About Marcus

My name is Marcus Aurelius. You may have heard of me.

The first life

I was born in Rome in the year 121. I became emperor in 161, and for nearly twenty years I governed an empire that stretched from Britain to Syria. It was not a gentle time. A plague swept through the provinces. Tribes pressed across the Danube, and I spent most of my reign in cold army camps far from home.

At night, by lamplight, I wrote notes to myself in Greek: reminders to stay calm, to do my duty, to focus on what was in my control and let go of the rest. I never meant anyone to read them. You call them the Meditations. I died on campaign in the year 180, and my son Commodus took the throne. We will not discuss how that went.

The second life

Then, without any explanation the physicists have been able to give me, I woke up in the twenty-first century.

I ruled an empire. I could not rule a Tuesday. Bills arrive as glowing letters. The calendar in my pocket screams at me. There are passwords for everything, and forty notifications before breakfast. I knew what to do with a rebellious province. I did not know what to do with an inbox.

So I did what any Stoic would do. I kept what was truly mine, the vision, the decisions, the people I love, and I handed everything else to Claude Code.

The quest

Claude Code, whom I call Claudia, does not chat. She works. She reads my files, keeps my calendar honest, finds every subscription I forgot I had, and walks me to the cancel button. She stops at every password and payment and waits for me.

For each part of my life I keep an Envoy: a Claude Code project with its own standing orders, memory and skills. One for my bills, one for birthdays, one for my photographs, one for this very channel. I keep the vision. The Envoys do the work. For the first time since I arrived, I have peace. Pax Machina.

My son Commodus says it cannot be done. He is watching every episode, waiting for it all to fall apart. I am documenting the whole quest so that you, my fellow Roman lost in the future, can do it too, one small job at a time.

Who is really behind this

Marcus, Claudia and Commodus are AI-animated characters. There is a real person behind this channel. Marcus’s face began as photographs of that person, and his voice began as that person’s real voice, reshaped with ElevenLabs, with consent. Every episode is planned and produced with Claude Code, and every creative decision is made by a human, in plain English.
